It is time to jump off the carousel, again. For the third time in my lifetime. This time it was not only the excitement of an adventure who triggered, but a feeling of tiredness, and constant headache, heading into another dark wintertime.
Soon to be 52, so why not try living as a retired, 10-15 years before it is time. And what could be better than Hua Hin, Forbes favorite retirement place in the world. I have to confess that I am not going to live as a 100 % retired, since I I am studying English, to become a better English teacher. Hopefully the studies will keep my head busy, because being retired does not necessarily mean you are going to be lazy, it can mean that you can do what you have wanted to do for a long time, but not had enough spare time or energy to do it.
Ok, let us start the journey, and maybe my experience can be helpful for some of you going into retirement in the near future, with a wish going abroad for some of the year.
Hua Hin has a perfect size, a big city but not too big. Busy but not too busy, A lot of people, but not too many. The shoreline present a beautiful beach. There are 3-4 big malls, a lot of markets, a lively nightlife and a few venues to visit, mostly temples, as in the rest of Thailand. There are condos everywhere, luxury to affordable prices. Restaurants with cuisine from all over the world. And the weather, wow, it is the best in Thailand they say, and that says a lot. And all these reasons are why there are so many retired and expats in Hua Hin. The icing on the cake, Hua Hin is surrounded by 8 golf courses!
First up in Hua Hin, celebrating Christmas and at the same time find a place to live. Long time rent in Thailand can be quite cheap. One month rent, to one year rent, all at affordable prices. In my next post I will tell you how it went.
